Elizabeth “Libby” McDonnell

Counsel

Libby McDonnell is Counsel supporting both the Dallas and Houston offices of Hedrick Kring Bailey, PLLC. Her practice focuses on commercial and business litigation, contracts, partnership and shareholder disputes, construction design and defect matters, real property issues, fiduciary duties, and professional liability and negligence cases in both state and federal courts.

She specializes in complex civil litigation, including e-discovery platform utilization and compliance, pre-litigation investigation and risk, post-lawsuit merit and claim analysis, discovery, dispositive motion practice, settlement, mediation, trial, and civil appellate issues.

Professional Background

Licensed in both Texas and Florida, Libby grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and attended the University of Georgia for her undergraduate studies in Business Management and French and went to the University of Miami in Florida for law school. While in law school, she served as an editor of the Inter-American Law Review and received the Grey Quill Award for the Best Student Submitted Law Review Article and the Most Outstanding Articles and Comments Editor accolade. She clerked for a federal magistrate judge in the Southern District of Florida and worked as a private practice attorney in Miami before relocating to Texas; she then joined a well-respected law firm in Galveston, Texas.

While in Galveston, Libby volunteered her time with local animal welfare organizations, including Bay Area Pet Adoptions and the ASPCA, and within the local legal community where she served as President of the Galveston County Young Lawyers Association, Secretary of the Galveston County Bar Association, and was awarded Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year in Galveston County in 2019.

In her spare time, Libby enjoys travelling and spending time with her husband, son, rescue dog, and extended family in the greater Dallas area.

  • Has advised C-suite team members on internal and external audits and investigations; corporate governance; and litigation avoidance, mitigation, and resolution strategy
  • Has served as outside counsel for multi-million-dollar businesses, including an international road engineering firm; a global specialty chemical producer; an oilfield services specialty provider; and a regional insurance carrier
  • Has consistently counseled clients in contract negotiations and represented small to mid-size businesses and individuals in commercial contract disputes
  • Successfully worked with opposing counsel to favorably settle a $100 million+ matter regarding alleged vast client overcharging, bribery, fraud and RICO violations in the oilfield services industry in federal court
  • Has worked with general counsel, client managers, claims personnel, insureds, and other counsel regarding insurance coverage (as applicable), litigation strategy, risk evaluation, and settlement of various million-dollar+ matters
  • Successfully defended a partner against claims of breach of duty of loyalty and care
  • Obtained favorable settlements in claims of breach of contract and fraud in various sales of businesses
  • Successfully prosecuted claims for defective engineering design and construction of a docking facility on the Texas Gulf Coast
  • Has regularly conducted internal company investigations and reported to corporate in-house and general counsel on accidents, process upsets, and catastrophic injuries
  • Has managed cases involving owners and contractors in residential and commercial construction defect disputes
  • Has represented various businesses in debt collection litigation in state and federal court
  • Effectively prosecuted and defended multiple property damage claims following Hurricane Harvey
  • Has managed outside vendor relations with electronic discovery platforms and organized and maintained complex discovery databases involving hundreds of thousands of documents
